This is just a small sketch in acrylic paint from one of my former art lessons when I was teaching painting. This painting demonstrates how you can take one color and create a mood with just that one color. The strength of the contrasts gives it interest, but in this case, it is the color that sets the mood. It suggests a lake or seashore scene approaching evening, laden with shadows or foreboding. Now imagine if it was instead Blues, Or Emerald, Or Lemon Yellow. Even Pink. In a variation in color it changes the mood entirely… but still monochromatic.
